My planned redesign of the City of Manitowoc’s 2007 budget to deal with the unfair and unfunded storm water utility mandate placed upon the City by the State of Wisconsin will in no way affect the Common Council’s ability to fund their planned share of the Aquatic Center park.
Our families need and deserve this facility for their summer recreation. As a matter of fact, I completely endorse and encourage the Common Council’s continued support of this great project.

I agree they don't "need" a water park. But they don't "need" lower taxes either. What they need is a Mayor who is dedicated to diversifying the tax base in order to spread the tax burden and lessen its weight on citizens.
Further, Mayor Crawford, I would like to know how the Storm Water mandate is "unfair," are you willing to go on record that a community should not be responsible for Storm Water Runoff? I don't know how else your comment that this is unfair could be interpreted. You blame Madison for the cost, Milwaukee and Chicago for our poor beach quality. You have yet to take responsibility for the poor leadership of Chuck Herzog, Bill Handlos, and apparently, now, Perry Kingsbury. You've also blamed this past year's tax increase on unfunded mandates from Madison and Washington. However, that is a false claim. The tax increase, as I pointed out during our primary campaign, was needed to be between 5 and 6 percent to "catch-up" to the rate of inflation that your irresponsible and unsustainable zero-percent tax increases neglected. You raised the tax levy 5.6% because of that, not Madison. And then you accused me of not knowing how to read the City's budget. You were wrong, and you need to start giving the citizen's some honest answers and honest proposals, and you need to start taking responsibility for the problems that face this community instead of passing the buck.

So everyone is in agreement. We'd be happy to pay higher taxes so long as it leads to more industrial jobs and to right the ship in terms of people in leadership roles within the city. Yet some people within this same thread are asking for lower taxes. Which one is it? It can't be both. Progress has a cost. These are not industrious times. Industries are not touring Manitowoc looking for a place to settle down. I agree more, higher paying, jobs are in order. But lobbying industries will have a cost, which I am all for. I would like to see advances made for the city. But I do understand you can't be all things to all people. So which is it - progress or lower taxes?

Manitowoc does not "NEED" a waterpark that can be used maybe 40 days out of the year. We HAVE beautiful natural waterpark just East of the city. It is called Lake Michigan. Don't waste out tax dollars on something that will not be profitable.

A pool might be a good idea, but we
don't need a water park that going to raise our taxes, what we need is lower taxes and less surcharges
added to our utility bills. The pivate sector is getting 2 to 3 precent incresses in wages{If that} what did you and your colleagues get for a raise. And lets talk health Insurance. I know the pivate sector pays more for less. How good do you have it.
WE NEED LOWER TAXES AND LESS SURCHARGES.
